Day 07

Reading Guide

Did you know that there is not a single person in the world who has not sinned? Real shocker, right? You’re probably not actually shocked by that.  Every single one of us has fallen short of God’s perfect glory one way or another. Glory is defined as “very great praise, honor, or distinction bestowed by common consent”,  as well as, “great beauty and splendor.” God’s glory is infinitely praiseworthy, honorable, and magnificent… a standard that is pretty hard for us to match. Because of our imperfection, we will be fighting a battle with our nature tendencies for the rest of our lives. This thing that tangles us up and snatches the joy from our lives is a constant reminder of our need for a savior.

As followers of Christ, we are called to a new way of life, free from sin. However, it can still be tempting to live life the way WE want to live it. We hold a death grip on those things that feel good in the moment, but when later reflected upon, we feel that twinge of regret. You may have things that you tend to hide, struggle with, or want to leave God out of. You may find yourself building up walls and wanting to do life your own way. However, in Luke 9:23, Jesus tells us, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”

In our time with God, are we reflecting on our choices? Are we surrendering our thoughts and actions to Him? Are we humbling ourselves enough to remember that we can’t live without a savior? God wants us to see our own weakness in order to acknowledge the strength we find in Him. When we pray, God wants us to give Him our FULL selves. We can always go to our Father when we have fallen short, and He will give us grace in our weakness. He provides more life than anything you could ever find on earth.

Challenge:

What is something you struggle with, or have avoided talking to God about? Take some time to talk to Him about it. He already knows what it is, but use this prayer as a reminder that you need a savior and need His power (EVERYDAY!). Remember that the Lord is ALWAYS quick to forgive!

P.S. Don’t forget to do something special for your mom, grandma, or mother figure today! Write a note, make breakfast, maybe even clean the house ;) — most importantly tell her you love her!!

Scripture

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

Matthew 16:25-26

Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

Romans 2:4

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
